At 4:30 this afternoon I heard our apartment door open and Titan woo wooed. I thought “What the fuck?” as Wil walked into the computer room. He had a box in his hands with what I suspected were things from his desk. He told me that he had been canned and handed me a copy of a resignation agreement that he had twenty-one days to sign and return. There was a yellow sticky note attached that read “Get Badge; $20 for cab @ 4:15; 21 Days to sign + return”. This resignation agreement is five pages long and is not signed by anyone. It has room to be signed by witnesses for employee and employer; but in my opinion cannot be considered a legally binding document without the appropriate signatures. It reminds me of Wil’s fiasco with Sitel where there was documentation of his termination via separation notice that was fraudulently prepared in an attempt to cover their ADA violating asses.
Wil played me a recording of his meeting in the front board room with Bryan Carver, his illustrious supervisor, and Bill Gaghan where Bryan told him that he was being terminated due to performance issues. Wil asked for specifics regarding these issues; but was only told that they had been discussed with him. The only evidence I am aware of was that Wil didn’t get his raise in March because of these alleged issues. Bryan has been on Wil’s ass for months and did not get specific with the details until March when he finally put in writing what he wanted Wil to improve on. Bryan and Wil were to have biweekly meetings from March
April 24 through June 6. They met on April 24th; but Bryan cancelled their meeting on May 8th telling him that he would reschedule at a later date. When no date was communicated to him, Wil e-mailed requesting a date on May 15th and 19th only to receive no response. We are both still in shock tonight at the days events. How can corrective action only last for one month with only one meeting devoted to its feedback?
There is no Human Relations resource to turn to At Freedom Scientific now. This resignation agreement was given to Wil in regular print for him to take home and review. I guess he was supposed to bring it home and scan it in with Open Book so that JAWS could read it aloud and rub salt in an already new and fresh wound. I put it under my CC TV (Optelec Spectrum Jr) and read it out loud to Wil. We are going to the labor board with this document and may pursue legal action as we feel sure that Wil is taking it up the ass once again. We do have e-mail documentation of some of the pertinent details to take to the labor board as well. In the past two and half years of Wil’s employment under Bryan Carver’s supervision, he has received very little guidance and feedback from him. Most of the time, Wil reported that Bryan stayed in his office with his door closed, relying on information about the technical support staff from his escalations team members, Cory Jackson and Grant Patterson. I find it hard to believe that Bryan Carver could function efficiently as a supervisor by hiding behind a closed door and relying on others to be his eyes and ears. That is a poor approach to management in my opinion. I understand that Mr. Carver’s experience is in customer sales with no experience in technical support duties. I guess in a private company such as Freedom Scientific one need not know how to do the job that he supervises; but only how to do his job through other less qualified individuals. When I worked for DFCS, my supervisors weren’t afraid to get right down on the front lines with us and did whatever was needed to get the job done. As I understand it, Bryan Carver has never signed into the ACD to assist with customer calls.
It sure was nice to breath easy for a couple of weeks. Now we worry about money and struggling once again. We turned our lives around to come down here to supposedly live a better life. What do have now? We finally have my Social Security benefits; but won’t have any medical insurance or wages for Wil. There’s nothing like being totally fucked over.
Until next time…

Hey Denise and Wil,
We feel complete and total empathy for what happened to you. I found out this morning. Did a websearch on the name Bill Gaghan to find out who this a-ahole was and what he did at FS, and your blog came up. I read it and my heart just sank to my feet. I knew you would be investigating the legalities of this incident; we plan to do the same if it happens to us, which is at this point more like a When than an If. Literally waiting for the other shoe to drop for ‘the other black sheep’.
If you need anything, we are around. And we have lots of beer right now waiting to be drunk. You’re most welcome to partake. Save some for us though; the day is not over yet.

Well I talked to wil and I told him the same thing I’m telling you. If you guys need to talk or anything Jess and myself are hear. It’s people like that that really make me wonder why higher ups can’t be looked after more closely. You guys are good people and I hate to see this happen to good and hard working people. Good luck to you, I wish there was more I could do.
I’m thinking of you both and of others who work for that fucked up company. Freedom shitty, that’s what it should be called
Chris
